Headquartered in Norway – the electric vehicle capital of the world – Casi is on a mission to bring a taste of the future to the automotive sector by enabling car manufacturers, leasing companies, and dealers to provide sought-after car subscription services to their customers. Casi’s white-label technology platform tracks and manages the entire lifecycle of a car running on subscription – creating accessible and sustainable ownership models for brands such as Hyundai, Stellantis, and Toyota & Lexus. However, as a lean startup, Casi needed a robust subscription and revenue growth management solution to complement its technology and meet the needs of automotive heavyweights.
The problem: Building a global technology powerhouse for car subscriptions
Casi knows the ins and outs of car subscriptions, having built its technology platform and own subscription service in 2018. Casi’s service – called ‘imove’ – grew to run 1,500 electric vehicles and achieved the highest car subscription TrustPilot score in the world before being sold to The Norwegian Bank (DNB) in 2022.
Retaining the technology side of the business, Casi became a pure white-label platform provider, helping car brands launch and scale their subscriptions. It addresses diverse needs such as setting up an e-commerce site to enable direct distribution; digitizing and automating the fleet, task and subscription management to cut operational costs; and rapidly analyzing behavioral, performance, and other data to increase customer satisfaction.
Casi’s goal was to bring its comprehensive tech offering and intricate industry know-how to leading automotive brands around the world and become a one-stop shop for car subscriptions or other flexible fleet concepts like flexible leasing or long-term rental. However, to reach new markets and validate its ‘country-jumping methodology’, it needed to overcome subscription billing complexities such as multi-currency support, language localization, and compliance with regional tax and security norms.
The solution: Chargebee helps Casi shift to top gear
Casi adopted Chargebee as its new subscription billing system while retaining part of its previous Stripe infrastructure on the payments side – capitalizing on Chargebee’s seamless integration with the payment gateway provider and other ecosystem partners like Adyen.
“Chargebee was recommended to help us unlock more advanced subscription revenue growth management such as real-time analytics and granular control over receivables. After seeing the strength of Chargebee’s billing logic and the alignment of our company values around innovation and customer-centricity, the choice was clear,” says Elise Lundamo, Business Developer at Casi.
Chargebee’s subscription billing capabilities integrate with Casi’s technology to automate the payment process, reduce manual work, minimize payment-related errors, and maintain security and compliance with financial regulations and privacy laws.
Chargebee’s functionality also extends to seamlessly handle subscription trials, pricing models, and invoicing, as well as provide powerful RevOps analytics into over 150 SaaS metrics and alerts, including monthly recurring revenue, churn, and customer lifetime value.
Jordan Symonds, Head of Communications at Casi says: “Chargebee has been fundamental to our subscription management platform from almost the start. Its ease-of-use and rich functionality are unmatched by other tools on the market, and strengthen our business proposition immensely. When global car brands come to us for help with scaling their flexible fleet services, Chargebee gives us the ability to say: we can equip you to offer your end-users a selection of payment methods, including mobile wallets and direct debit, support 100+ currencies and 25 languages.”
The result: Satisfying the need for speed, convenience, and customer-centricity in car subscriptions
Chargebee’s subscription and revenue growth management capabilities have made a material difference in Casi’s day-to-day operations through two game-changing functionalities:
Multiple payment gateways give Casi out-of-the-box functionality when entering new markets. This country-agnostic alignment enables Casi to launch new subscription services for its clients in as little as three weeks.
Sophisticated API integrations enable Casi to connect all vital data sources in just two hours – creating a single source of truth in all subscription data.
As a testament to the success of its country-jumping methodology, there are now more than 30,000 subscription cars running on the Casi platform across Scandinavia, the Baltics, the UK, the Netherlands, Spain, and Germany, with plans to expand to more countries in the near future. Casi has also grown its network to include more than 50 partners.
Speed is a real keyword in our partnership with Chargebee. From providing real-time overview and control over operations to accelerating business expansion, Chargebee gives us all the tools we need to deliver on our mission – and do so with ease, as knowledgeable and friendly customer support is always just a click of a button away.
Elise Lundamo, Business Developer at Casi.
Casi is now on the fast track to making the automotive industry more accessible, sustainable, and customer-centric. As Jordan Symonds concludes: “Today, when automobiles are de-facto computers, car brands are having to transform into software companies to keep pace with the speed of innovation and customer expectations. Together with Chargebee, our technology helps inject agility into these steady-paced automotive giants and drive the digital transformation of the sector. We’re not only saving our clients time and money through the subscription management model; we’re also providing them with more ownership and control over rich customer data to make every step of the customer journey seamless and differentiated.”
